True. But the poster made a generalist statement that the 500pf wasn't suitable for butterflies. If he would have said "small" or "macro" I would have agreed!

Even you have to admit (as I have to admit) that both lenses are unsuitable for tinier butterflies such as hairstreaks, smaller blues, etc.

No doubt! That's why I'm in the market for a long telephoto with a greater RR. The 100-400 is a candidate for sure!

The Z 100-400, with its .38x reproduction ratio, is going to be suitable for all forms of butterfly — especially with the 1.4x TC on it.

I agree and look forward to the photos you take with it.  I'm sure you will convince me to consider one!
