Looking through the gear list of all the responders on this thread I don't see anyone (except 1 who sold his) who actually owns the Nikon Z 100-400.  How can you seriously comment on this lens based on wall charts and internet reviews?   I always say; Use your own eyes and use cases to evaluate a lens.  A chart on a wall or computer does not tell you how a lens renders.  That was the point with the 58mm.

The focal range of 100-400 is ideal for many wildlife scenarios where both short and long range focal lengths are needed.   Sometimes 500mm is just a bit too long; even along the flight line of an air show!  Its ideal to have a 400mm zoom which can take tele-converters and perform well.
