Honestly, yes.

It's better looking, it performs better @ 400mm, and it has a better reproduction ratio .38x.

In fact, for me, because I shoot butterflies, and because the reproduction ratio of the Z 100-400 is literally nearly twice as close as the 80-400 (@ only .2x), that alone justifies a 40% increase in price — because it's more than a 40% increased in performance.

Your use case and mileage may vary ...

Good point, higher reproduction rate is definitely on the plus account.

Slightly lighter and better balanced as well I think.
