Honestly, yes.

It's better looking, it performs better @ 400mm, and it has a better reproduction ratio .38x.

In fact, for me, because I shoot butterflies, and because the reproduction ratio of the Z 100-400 is literally nearly twice as close as the 80-400 (@ only .2x), that alone justifies a 40% increase in price — because it's more than a 40% increased in performance.

Agree. It would undoubtably be a great "semi-macro" lens for larger insects/butterflies. Do you recall what the reproduction ratio is on your 70-200 + 2xtc? What about image quality differences?  If they are comparable, I would choose the 70-200 as it would be a more versatile lens for my needs.
