D-Range Priority is the culprit

Think? Check it, just “Auto” shouldn’t do this, but Auto D Range Priority could do this.

D Range Priority -> Auto

Well, there’s your answer. D-Range Priority deemed the light in the second image to be too high in contrast and did something about it. If you had used standard DR100 or DR AUTO (or 200/400) , this wouldn’t have happened, but DR PRIORITY can make much more significant changes to the contrast than the other modes (but there are settings to fine-tune how much - WEAk to STRONG).
