Compact camera without compulsory zoom activation

I am looking for a compact camera that can operate without extending a zoom lens until a zoom function is activated by the user. I want to be able to have the camera on and able to record, display photo previews, and adjust settings without changing shape. The problem with most compact cameras is that they automatically extend the zoom lens when the power is turned on. This causes a problem when a change in shape is not possible.  Are there any cameras that have no compulsory extension of the zoom lens other than the waterproof, fixed-lens cameras such as the Olympus Tough TG-6 that are also the size of a Canon PowerShot Elph?
