What could have caused this image corruption?

What could have caused this image corruption?

This image was somehow corrupted:

How could this happen? The entire series was shot in RAW. I believe that during the first pass through on the laptop (quick look in Adobe Bridge) this problem was not apparent, but perhaps I just didn't notice. The corruption may have happened after I ran my shell script which uses Exiftool to rename files in yyyymmdd_hhmmss syntax, add some metadata about the photo series, and create XMP files; however, I have run that script on thousands of photos from this same camera and same SD card without incident.
