Faulty lens

August last year and I woke up one morning and could not see properly. Eventually an eye specialist told me I have a cataract, it appears as a milky inclusion in the lens of the eye and requires surgery. In a darkened room the effect is as below, the single green line to the left of the vertical line is e.g. an "on" indicator on a tv. What I saw is the view to the right of the line. Asked to recite a standard optician letters chart I could see a smeary blur and no letters.

I had the operation last weekend and by Monday morning when I opened the affected eye I could see clearly beyond about 1m, quite probably for the first time in my life.

The cataract is removed and the lens in the eye replaced with an intraocular lens. These are of increasing sophistication. Problem now is my operated on eye does not correspond to the prescription for my distance or reading glasses so making image editing very difficult. I decided to produce a selfie as a Long John Silver impersonator but what looked fine in PS is actually this horrible sight.

My other eye, the visible one here, also has a cataract so for the next 3 months or so I can take photos but not edit them. But I can see. It is a normal outcome for the surgeon but astonishing for me.
