Lens hood

Hi everyone. I am in a decision to buy a circular filter for my lenses.  I own the Canon 16-35 mm f/4 IS USM, the Canon 35 mm f/2.0 IS USM  and the Canon 70-200 mm f/4 IS USM lenses. The 16-35 mm has a filter diameter of 77 mm and the two others 67 mm.  I know that I can buy the 77 mm filter and use it with an adapter on the 67 mm.  But then I won't be able to use a lenshood with the 67 mm front thread lenses.

So is a lenshood so important? I see many photographers using filter systems to be able to use for example a circular polarizer together with a graduated neutral density filter. It is then absolutly impossible to use a lenshood.

Is the 77 mm filter the best choice? Does a lenshood makes a real difference?

Thanks.
