Do Websites detect type of device?
Do Websites detect type of device?
This is not a computer question per se, but I suspect someone here will know the answer.
When I got to googlemaps on my desktop PC there are a number of features that I use, I can toggle between a map display and a satellite view. I can click on the "street view" icon to bring up a photographic image of the location. A right-click of the mouse will reveal more features, like displaying the longitude and latitude coordinates of the map position of the cursor or allow me to measure distances.
If I go to the exact same website on a different device (say a tablet or a smartphone), many of these features seem unavailable. Do websites actually detect the type of device that is connecting to them and modify the display accordingly? If not, what is going on?
