Not clearly mentioned already is that the 28mm lens will give you better depth of field than the 100mm. As already mentioned consider an EF 50mm with extension tubes as a part-way option between 28mm and 100mm, compromising distance and depth of field. Another option is the Sigma EF DG Macro 105mm f2.8 macro with IS. I have one of these for copying 35mm slides on a full frame body and the sharpness and general clarity are excellent. It was much cheaper than the Canon 100mm L and I doubt anyone would tell the difference (I’ve not done a comparison myself).
