When raw images are demosaiced, colour information has to be interpolated (as captured colour resolution is lower). This is the underlying reason. How this noise manifests itself depends on the raw conversion process and NR, which is why most of the discussion in this and the previous thread is about the process used at least as much as about the cameras (most likely, more than about the cameras).
