Lens compatability with close-up filters
2

Using a Panasonic FZ200, I am trying to become familiar with the use of close-up lenses before spring arrives. I have purchased several achromatic lenses and found that about half of them produce images that are soft around the edges. So I am wondering, is this a compatibility issue, or are some achromats simply better than others?

The achromats I have tried:

Minolta No.0 - Works well

Minolta No.1 - Edge softness

Canon 500D - Excellent!

Minolta No.2 - Strong edge softness

Kenko No.5 - A little edge softness

I read Seemolf's chart here and blindly assumed that if it says it fits it would be a good marriage of lens and close-up filter. Should I be looking for higher-quality achromats or asking for help pairing my fixed lens with the right close-up lens?

Thanks
