Disappearing Focus Peaking?
Jan 12, 2022
I was sitting in my car waiting for my appointment at my Barber's and decided to take some shots with my X-T2 and my Kipon iBerit 75mm f2.4 of the woods next to his shop. The Kipon lens is fully manual, so I had my X-T2 set to MF and was shooting fine jpegs with peaking set to Red High and the film simulation set to the Kodachrome II Film Recipe I have been using lately.
I started by taking a few photos wide open at f2.4 and in the photo below, focused on the large tree in front on the right. I was shooting through my windshield because it was 12 Degrees Fahrenheit out there, but the red high peaking was clearly visible as I focused the lens. After about four slightly different shots, I switched the aperture on the lens to f5.6 and the peaking just disappeared. No matter where I tried to focus, I could not get the peaking to show.
I am at a complete loss to figure out why the peaking suddenly stopped working. I have a complete set of these iBerit f2.4 lenses (24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, & 90mm). This has happened before but I don't remember which lens I was using at the time. My X-T2 is at 4.40 firmware which is the latest version. Anyone have an idea if it is a problem with the X-T2, the lens, or possibly shooting through my SUV's windshield?
