That explains it! Thank-you. So a less risky, non-do-it-yourself would be an EF 2x II, any EF 1.4x, and Canon EF to RF adapter? I am just trying to keep future possibilities open.

I am not sure if you mentioned it somewhere, but did you get autofocus with this setup? Would the setup I mentioned maintain AF?

I would recommend the RF 1.4x over the EF 2x ii. It will AF to infinity with an EF/RF adapter between EF 2x iii & RF 1.4x.

I have not tried the EF 2x ii or 2x ii, but 1.4x iii is way better than 1.4x ii. I have not noticed a difference between EF 1.4x iii and RF 1.4x, but that pair is not yet fully tested.

I think the EF 1.4x iii may have slightly better IQ than the RF. Still need to do more conclusive testing.

If you go DIY, then I'm not sure the Commlite is the best choice. At least mine did not have springs behind each pin and it is prone to communication errors due to that. On the other hand, it was easy to dissamble for modifications. That made the cleaning easy.

No trouble with my Commlite so far, but I will keep an eye out. Thanks for the tip. Are you sure the issues were with the CM-EF-EOSR ARC and not one of the other versions?
