Great post Marco.

Is is just me, or does anyone else think the lens combination resembles a Saturn V? Seems rather appropriate for moon shots 🙂

The tapered neck of the focus ring on this lens (and others like it) reminds me of the Saturn V rocket as well.  And I have about 8 different Saturn V rocket models on display in my office right now (including actual spare and flown Apollo spacecraft parts from the 1960s) so I'm constantly reminded of this whenever I handle the lens and it's certainly made more obvious when you add the 2x Extender.

This looks a bit like a hoarders room!  Many of these were simply used as references when I worked in the film industry and the display has been reduced greatly in recent years. I ran out of room for the meteorite collection and the dinosaur collection got way out of hand this year.  I rarely buy anything these days... yet another item that was deemed lost by the USPS last year just arrived this morning,  Most of this has since been culled (this picture was from around 2013 (ignore the EXIF).

perhaps it's the similarities is color (Black and "white" with red highlights).  The tapering at the focus ring looks far less obvious in this image.

Posted in the earlier reply... but perhaps the more rocket-looking of the images I've taken.  There black EF12 spacer ring between the two Extenders actually looks like the Stage III paintwork on the Saturn V (S-IVB) ... which you can just make out in the first image.

I'm by no means a hoarder or even much of a hardcore collector of things.  I prefer to just collect the odd relevant display piece these days.  I just don't have the room or the visitors these days to warrant a large collection that takes up space and attracts dust.
