Your post about setting up your second X-T2 exactly like your first struck a chord with me. A "hell no" kind of chord.
I think I'd want my second camera to be explicitly different from my first; to fulfill a different role. I haven't quite figured out why I had this visceral reaction to the notion of two identical cameras. Maybe because I've been shooting with an asymmetric pair (X-T2 and Ricoh GR) for years.
But my gut reaction is usually a good indicator for my preferences. By the same token, I find the idea of having an X-E3 to accompany my X-T2 much more exciting than the thought of replacing the X-T2 with an X-T3. Perhaps I just see more novelty in an asymmetric approach, and am addicted to new toys? Who knows.
This is of course in no way a condemnation of you using two identical bodies. It might work great for you! Just probably not for me.
While I like different cameras for different purposes, I really appreciate if they are all set up as similarly as possible to avoid problems when switching between them. All my custom settings are fine-tuned and set for a reason - to make picture taking as efficient and fluid as possible. If I had two identical cameras, they would absolutely be set up identically. If the original was set up to be as efficient as possible, why would I want the second one any different? I can switch to my X100V easily enough now, but because it lacks a d-pad and customizable options are fewer (and different), it took a while. getting used to the somewhat different set up. Different lenses, of course, but I don’t know why anyone would want their different cameras to operate differently if they don’t have to.
