Every single Canon Camera had a build in view finder until I got the M6II.

Almost all lenses come with lens hood, except the Canon non L lenses.

And as far as I know - but I could be wrong - all the full frame Canon cameras came without a build in flash.

Alastair: just buy a Yongnuo or Godox thing. In my markted that's only 100 to 150 euro for a pretty good amount of power, and the compact ones are even more affordable. Of course you have to do your research on compatibility, and for the future you will never know, however, I did the gambling and my cheap *ss speed lite worked/works well on the 70D, M50, M6II, R, R5.

I actually have 4 flashes, including a little Godox ( marketed under Adorama’s brand name) and a Canon 430 EX II. My post wasn’t serious. Of course I knew that the R doesn’t have built-in flash before I bought it (and that no Canon full frame has built-in flash). I read extensively about every camera (and lens) that I buy, before I buy it. Part of the point was to parody the kind of complaint that comes from someone who buys something without doing much, if any research, and then complains about something that they could easily have discovered from a cursory reading of the specs, that are readily available all over the internet, including here. It was prompted by a current thread started by someone who bought a camera, then discovered that the battery it takes is different from the batteries in other cameras he owns, and then complained bitterly about it. He also kept getting confused between the names of the cameras he owns, so he was posting incorrect information (switching claims about the R with claims about the RP), and refusing to back down when he was corrected by multiple people. He did eventually admit his mistake.

As to Canon’s decision not to include built-in flash on their FF cameras, I’m fine with it. I use flash very rarely. When I have used the built-in flash on my various other cameras, I’ve never liked the results anyway, so prefer external flash for the rare occasions when I use it. I, along with most other posters, would like Canon to supply hoods with their non-L lenses. Every Sigma lens I’ve bought has come with a hood (and I haven’t bought any of their expensive Art lenses). Same with Tamron. It’s not a really big deal, because I just buy the cheap JJC hoods, which work well for me. In general, as you know, I’m quite happy with what Canon gives me in exchange for my money, and that includes their service. In over 20 years of using their digital cameras and lenses (and 24 years before that with film cameras), I’ve only had to deal with Canon service four times. And each time they were fast, efficient, and helpful.

I also like the lack of built-in EVF on my M6II. I know this is more controversial, with plenty of people on both sides. But I shoot my M6II most of the time without the EVF, so really appreciate being able to keep it as small as possible. And the EVF is so small and light that it easily fits in an external pocket on pretty much any camera bag. And I think the camera without the EVF looks cool (I have the silver version). I know this is a silly reason, but still.

As the length of a thread approaches 150, the probability that someone will make the obvious "it's not the camera, it's the photographer" remark approaches 1.
