But as far as it's common knowledge those cams don't have a "counter" the like more recent cameras have and which can be read out.

In any case from my ownership of the KM7D the shutter count was certainly not a reliable indicator of possible issues like the dreaded FFB. When I sold my cam it had reached about 16k clicks - and it had been 2 times for FFB servicing in about 2,5 years of ownership. And just a few months after selling the cam KM cam out with a "no-more-spare-parts" notice....
