Yes and no. I used this successfully to separate a Yashinon-R 135/2.8 preset lens, which seems to often suffer from separation. I managed to reglue it with some optically clear epoxy resin.

However my other attempt was not so successful. I attempted to separate the front doublet of a Polaris 135mm F/1.8 lens using the boiling water method. The outer element of the doublet had a small mark. This was all it took to be weak enough, and the front element cracked from there all the way out to the edge. Ouch!
