Early Z9 impressions as a wildlife photographer

Really enjoying the Z9 - using it mainly with a 600/4 FL and the FTZ1 adaptor.  I do have the new Z 100-400 but I've hardly used it yet - just love the big prime.

It does lose birds in flight a bit more than I expected - or doesn't pick them up - and goes to the background - but all in all I'm getting shots I could not get before with my D500 or Z7 and I'm getting them consistently - so I'm very happy.

And I think the Z9 will get continual firmware improvements too.

Apart from the AF - the viewfinder is fantastic. There are too many other things to list - I love the sensor cover to keep dust etc out for example. The FPS is a big one for me too as a wildlife photographer - although I'm having a hard time deleting all the images I shouldn't keep!

The IQ seems a bit better than my Z7 somehow but not sure how - the noise seems similar but there just seems to be something about the shots from the Z9. Both are pretty similar IQ wise I guess.

I also like doing video and here is a short test of some 4k slomo footage with it - https://youtu.be/Zm_sk_w-N9I
