Switch off LCD and pause metering between shots

Hello. I've just transitioned from a dSLR to an X-S10. Previously on the dSLR I only used the viewfinder to take shots and was happy to have my camera ON constantly. Now I'm getting used to the LCD as well as the EVF. Between shots the camera's LCD is on and is constantly metering the scene. I've turned the standby time down to 15 sec, but I find the few seconds for the camera to switch back on a little annoying. I thought perhaps I could assign the Fn button to toggle the EVF-only but that is not possible. I could manually switch the camera off/on between takes.

Can you tell me what you folks do? Perhaps you don't find it a big deal at all (for example not much hit to battery).
