A fixed focal length lens on a camera isn't for everyone, especially when we've all become so used to zooms. It is nice that with the converters I do have an option to increase or decrease the focal length on my X100f if I really need to. Is it particularly convenient? No, but the option is provided and increases the flexibility of the camera. As someone posted earlier I suspect it had to do with the accuracy needed to couple it to the lens with as little weight gain as possible.
When I travel I often put the WA converter on and leave it on. It's fairly small and unobtrusive and yields a very usable focal length and gives me a bit more of a wide angle. I also have the longer focal length converter, that's a bit of a beast for what it is and definitely would have been a challenge to mount with a bayonet or some type of quick attach system.
I have had the same thought when using the X100V and WCL/TCL... wouldn't it be great to be able to swap lenses quicker. However, as has been pointed out, sticking with one focal length is sort of the point, and it is the trade-off for the smaller for factor and "lenses".
One benefit of "switching" lenses with the X100V, it is a bit easier to keep one of the converter lenses on the camera, then take it off and hold it in your hand when you want to shoot 35m. The difficulty comes when you try to go from WCL direct to TCL... so just avoid doing that. Either shoot wide and medium... or "tele" and medium.
*Although it would be great to have the x100v form factor, with easily attachable lenses.
** While we are thinking wishfully... a 70m "super" tele converter would be great, even if it were substantially bigger.
