Hi,

I recently started using my 550D to film one or two-hours-long interviews. Unfortunately, every ~12 minutes (or 4.28GB) the camera stops recording, and I gotta interrupt the chat to go and press the record button again.

So I bought an intervalometer to bypass the problem, but what it does, instead of restarting the video, is remotely "pressing" the shutter button, which takes a photo but does not start recording.

I was wondering if any of you knew how to set the shutter speed to also start recording videos, so that I can use the intervalometer for the above-mentioned purpose. Needless to say I checked online but could not find any answer to my question. Not even the Canon manual seems to be mentioning it.

Any help would make me grateful!

LeonardoM.

I don't know if your camera works the same way, but in my 850D, you can assign the shutter button to start and stop movies in the menu.

Flip the main switch to the movie mode, and click on your menu button. The function is in the little tab that looks like a wrench. Like this:

In my camera, the function to re-assign the shutter button is number 4 in the sub-menus.

I did this myself, and like it a lot.

It seems like your other option would be to use a remote switch. (RS-60E3).
