The front element of the lens is sensitive, btw. When you put the camera inside your bag, make sure it's not face down or resting on the lens. Avoid anything that presses hard against it when in your camera bag.
Enjoy!
Thanks for this infomation - very helpful!
Is it not common to use the lens cap, when the camera is not in use, then? I would hope that provides adequate protection.
It protects agaonst scratching the lens, but as it sits on top of the lens you can still bump it and cause misalignment/ AF issues

It's the biggest bang for the buck lens of Canon for the EFM mount. Aside from the pointers already provided, you may want to consider buying an ND8 and ND32 filter. It's a bright lens so for long exposure you may find it useful to have ND filters versus having to stop down beyond f/9 which I consider the maximum I'd go to as far as this lens is concerned.
I've already found stopping down to anywhere close to f/9 results in below acceptable sharpness, I suppose this is down to the lack of IS?! Which takes away somewhat from the portability/'pocketability' of the body and lens combination.
No, it is not a lack of IS, above F5.2 diffraction comes into play, which starts to become visible at around/above F9.
