AFAIK you have to set the focal length manually, from a few standard options or choosing a custom one (which you can change)

Correct - as manual lenses (usually) don`t have any electronic contacts to communicate with the camera body, the camera has no means to know which lens is attached (it doesn`t even know there is any lens attached at all, lol, thus a need to allow "SHOOT WITHOUT LENS"[1], too).

For selecting the correct manual lens focal length yourself (each time you switch to a different one), look into "SHOOTING SETTING > MOUNT ADAPTOR SETTING[2]".

For easier/quicker access, you can add the setting to "My Menu", making it the first thing that you get once you press the "MENU/OK" button, too (shooting with a lot of manual lenses myself, that`s what I did, at least).

Note that you don`t have to change anything when shooting with electronically coupled lenses (like Fuji`s own ones), as they will be correctly recognized no matter what focal length you have set for "MOUNT ADAPTOR SETTING".
