Re: Master Pedestal and Wave Form

You didn't need to start a new thread, you're still shooting in low light and trying to manage noise, so both threads are addressing the same issue.

I don't have a Panasonic camera to test with, but I think that tweaking the master pedestal will have a negligible impact on the noise floor, as I believe that under exposure is the root of your issue. You need to properly expose for the scene to mitigate noise, as under exposed shots will have noise, not matter what camera or profile you use.

I read that i.dynamic raises the noise floor, so try turning it down or disabling it.

Please post some screen shots of your footage next to the waveform in your editing software.

Here are some suggestions for getting a better exposure and mitigating noise:

  • Use a fast prime, and maybe pair it with a focal reduce.
  • Lower your shutter speed, if there aren't pans or movement in the shot.
  • ETTR and dial down the exposure in post.
  • Apply temporal and spatial noise reduction.
  • Downsample the UHD clips to 1080P to shrink the noise.
