Sigma 17-50 2.8 on Canon M50 - Slow AF for action photography?

I don't think the camera is the issue here as I am getting great results with it albeit with the 18-135 STM.

The Sigma 17-50 is hit or miss for me. I might just keep it for stills, but for action sports, it's staying in the bag.
