There's no specific "feature" on most boards I'm concerned about - adequate M.2 slots (I know I'll use 2 from the start), enough SATA ports (I'll be using 4 immediately), WIFI (there are times when I'm operating using the hotspot on a cell phone) and a good number of front and rear panel USB 3 ports.  Mostly, it's worth the hundred or so dollars to get quality builds with better components so the environment is as stable as possible.  Every time I look at a "best motherboard for" comparison and they talk about "budget builds", "lower quality components", "restrictions on overclocking" I think unexpected glitches, hangs, crashes and whatevers that are explained away by support as "Well, that IS a "low end" motherboard and it's not built to do X.  A conversation I've had in the past...
