While half pressing the shutter release and getting the green focus lock with AF-S I have experienced a slight subject movement before the final full press for firing of the shutter (which results in less sharpness). I have experienced where after a focus lock I may communicate "smile" or "stand up straight" which introduces slight movement. As a result I use eye-AF and AF-C (great technology). Yes, f/8 helps to compensate for slight missed focus (especially at my age). I need all the camera / lens technology help I can get.

Although, it is totally possible your lens is not up to spec. and should be replaced.
