Anyone else's 23mm F2 really good at F2?

I recently took some group portraits.  10 or more people and not huddled together.

Full body shots with environment at the edges and borders

It was daytime and I had it on F2 by accident and usually would have used F5.6!

Got home saw the exif data and was like oh no I've ruined the yearly group photos!

To my surprise the photos came out peach.  I DID use a small 100 amount and 2mpx smart sharpen for 'lens blur' in CS6

But the photos are tac sharp at 266 dpi for very large prints (would go up to A1 easily)

I cannot post them due to GDPR and safeguarding.

Then I realised, doh I was shooting at F2 before that and had a look at the photos of some steam train line sheds I was shooting.  Perfectly sharp and no smart sharpen even needed.

Am I doing something wrong?    Did I get a wrong copy?
