Fuji X: Focussing in steps. Less accurate or prone to error?

Is my observation correct that Fuji lenses focus in steps (i.e: not continuously)? When I turn on the DoF indicator (Pixel Level) on I can see it move in steps when I turn the focus ring. The steps are spaced so that the Pixel Level DoF kind of bridges the gaps between the steps. The shorter the distance, the lower the Pixel Level DoF, the finer the steps. But I also wonder whether this results in less accurate AF? Are there any articles on the Internet where I can read up on this? Thanks.
