Image stabilization: techniques to avoid it causing blur

Hi All,

I have a Sigma 100-400 lens with optical stabilisation, paired with a Sony A7RII.

I've found that I need to pause an extra moment to ensure the shot is sharp, especially when using the lens at longer focal lengths, as I believe this lets the stabilisation settle down.

Is this the reality of all longer telephoto lenses with stabilisation? I've only had primes up to 85mm on my Sony so never noticed issues. 400mm is a different ballgame though and I've improved my grip to minimise shake. But wondering if waiting for stabilisation is part of the technique too?

Thanks.
