Laowa 85mm f/5.6 for MFT macro photography

Recently Laowa released a compact 85mm f/5.6 macro lens for several mounts but excluded MFT. Fortunately, the Leica M mount is supported and can easily be adapted for MFT (and also for Sony E if desired).

Popular competition in the MFT space would include the following lenses:

- Laowa 50mm f/2.8 macro 2:1; $500

- Olympus 60mm f/2.8 macro 1:1; $400-$500

- 7Artisans 60mm f/2.8 macro 1:1; $180

- Laowa 60 or 65mm f/2.8 macro (adapted to MFT) 2:!; $400

My current thinking is the new Laowa 85mm f/5.6 may hit that sweet spot on an MFT body for having the following:

- Compact but quality build

- 2x magnification with decent focus throw

- Better working distance than most of the compact macro options

- Similar image quality to the mentioned competition once no direct or oblique sunlight

I’m very interested in the thoughts of any MFT photographers that take pictures of insects in nature on the usefulness of the new Laowa 85mm compared to the other mentioned options.

I think the working distance of the Laowa 50mm is a bit on the low side. Also the Olympus 60mm remains a very flexible option with a decent working distance even though limited to 1:1.
