Lighting Pokemon Cards

Hi All,

I’d like some advice on lighting. My son wants me to photograph his collection of Pokemon cards for sale on ebay; about 200 or so. I’m not sure how to go about this. He wanted each card photographed individually but I’m thinking to batch them.

I have all the equipment for this project (Canon 80d, heavy tripod, Alien Bees, 100mm macro lens, 50mm normal lens + more). My plan is to shoot from overhead.

Should I simply aim 2 Alien Bees at 45° angles or perhaps use a light tent? What about backgrounds – white, black or colored? I guess I could scan them with my HP 9025 printer but using the flash scenario seems more exciting and would help me sharpen my lighting skills.

What’s your advice?

Thank you.
