Just an observation, since applying either back button focus techniques, or, AI-servo with constant lock for longer period prior to shooting, the issues of AF-miss/IS-gyro shift causing shots to be less sharp is reduced to virtually zero.

Could be the AF motor (STM) isn't keeping up, could be the IS-gyro shifting as it "settles". Either way, just thought I'd share for more tack sharp shots, it's not just prefocusing, but, holding an AF-lock in AI-servo for a bit prior to shooting (if possible), will improve sharpness of shots. Recommended on DIGIC8 Canons as DIGIC8 can hold it's on in AI-servo. DIGIC7 and prior are more reliable in single-shot (no tracking) in my experience.
