Z6ii Subject Tracking - return to centre or keep on tracking?

I dual-shoot with z6ii bodies. The two cameras actually behave differently, and I can't figure out why...

I usually use auto area AF, with face tracking, but prefer to switch to subject tracking (I've set a function button on the front, where my middle finger rests). The subject tracking box appears, and as soon as I start to focus (I use back-button focusing) it tracks whatever I've started focusing on...

On one camera, when I release the focus button, the square returns to the middle of the frame. It's ready for me to find a new subject, nice and quick.

On the other camera, it keeps on tracking even when I'm not asking it to focus. This is really annoying. The only way to return to a centre focus point is to turn off subject tracking mode, then back on again, with multiple presses of my fn button.

It's getting so annoying. There's already too many presses to bring up the subject tracking mode (why, oh why is there no subject tracking mode to start with, without initiating it?! If there is, please tell me!) I have to switch focus modes to the plain old tiny centre point. Not ideal.

If anyone understands what I've set differently, I'd love to know! Thanks
