I also inspect batteries about once a month or so by putting them on a flat surface and checking for any warping or bulging. I do that for all OEM and third-party batteries. I started doing that long ago based on experience with the batteries in Apple laptops at the time; they were bulging so bad that it was pushing against the laptops and causing people's keyboards to have issues. But it's really an abundance of caution since I've never really had any camera batteries bulge, but it can definitely happen and it's worth checking, IMO. Better safe than sorry.

I probably also shouldn't keep the batteries in the camera when not in use for long periods, but I think I use the cameras enough and rotate the batteries enough that it's not an issue for me.
