Re: A tip about free usually paid app

A little late to this discussion and I think I've discussed a similar topic with I2K4 before.

I don't use my phone for much more than snapshots and mostly on auto but that said I've been searching for many months for the a camera app that's better than the stock app on my Realme 6. ...

A nice post that could help others. As I wrote, third-party Android devs can't keep up with the proliferation of OEM lenses/sensors and Camera2 sabotage, and tend to focus on the big-selling models.

I'm lucky my Moto Z3 Play supports several good GCams, versions 6.x to 7.3, and the "Auto" HDR+ is just as fast and outperforms single-shot JPEG or DNG output from other apps. Also the algorithmic multi-shot digital zoom at 2x or so is much better. (I intend to spring for optical telephoto on my next phone.)

Other than GCam, I agree that in single-shot Auto most apps are indistinguishable except for GUI. Snap Camera HDR (the paid updated v. 10.x) has the most configurable and capable HDR I've found, including zero shutter lag. Paid Camera FV-5 has worked fine on all my phones, and I often find its PNG output a bit richer and sharper than JEPG. I use Hedgecam2 set to shoot black and white JPEG and full DNG, just enjoy shooting monochrome but without the limitations of the dedicated b/w apps.

I mentioned Bacon Camera only because the OP said he doesn't get RAW/DNG. For me, Bacon produced the best non-native DNGs from pre-Camera2 phones, Snap Camera tended to push white balance to bluish, and an app called FreeDCam never worked on my old phone.
