Okay, please school me on R5 memory

I'm a dum bass.... So let me tell you what I think I know, and plz correct me if I'm wrong, and / or fill in the blanks. I've never had a camera with dual slots.

Alright, so the R5 has two memory slots, one for SD and one for CF. I have both types on the way.

But here's where I'm thrown off... If I'm reading things correctly, I need to use the SD slot (and SD card) to back up my images. However, the SD card is much slower, so it could slow down my bursts rates or number of shots before it starts buffering ?

So it seems like I have to make a choice between 1) backing up my shots on the SD card, OR not using the SD slot for back ups at all, but only using the CF card / slot for max speed and the most frames before the camera slows down ? This really doesn't sound right ? My SD cards are rated at 170MB a second... And my CF card is rated at 1700MB read / 1200MB write.

What am I missing here ?
