R5 with RF100-500 & 1.4x extender Bird Pics
14

After being a Nikon DSLR user for over 40 yrs I made the change a few weeks ago to the Canon Mirrorless system for my bird photography - mainly because of the newer system plus the smaller, lighter and hopefully more useable gear.

First impressions are pretty good and certainly of the required standard I need for the social media and small print output I use the images for.

I started off with the R5 and firstly added the RF600mm (worked well), then the RF100-500mm lens (once they finally arrived in the UK last week!) with the 1.4x extender. A few examples below taken today with the latter set up. Impressed in particular with how quick and accurate the focus was with the in flight shots.

All shot at 1/100th, f/11, 700mm equiv with ISO's ranging from 1000-3200.

Minor cropping applied in all images and very slight sharpening in a couple.

Stonechat about 10 metres away and Godwit approx 80 metres.
