Rainbow Bee-eater stalked by Willie Wagtail

Some  may say that the Willie Wagtail, described as active and conspicuous across a wide range of open habitats in Australia, is our favourite bird.  Renowned for its unmistakable chattering call, indefatigable tenacity in the face of larger birds and territoriality it just has to be admired, and even liked.

However, that sentiment likely isn't shared by Rainbow Bee-eaters that return each spring to the WW's territory with the express purpose of continuing the species.  I captured this series late today on the golf course.

Softly, softly

Getting closer

Pounce, but the female RBE isn't deterred.

Camera & tripod setup on the fairway's edge.  The RBE's perch in the eucalypts while their burrow is just near the white post.
