Soooo.....
My current everyday carry (EDC) is the A7C, Sony 20/2.8 apsc, and a HVL-f28RM flash. Not the best quality, but certainly fast enough and good enough for street shooting and candids for instant printing.
But now I have a problem, I got the GM, and that is literally the ONLY lens with which I want to shoot. It is heavier, and I actually care more about damaging it.
If you are using this set up (or even the 35GM as an EDC) how are you protecting your gear?
I protect all of my equipment equally.
I should but do not as wrapping a camera in a lint free cloth gets me access to shooting faster, where as keeping my more expensive lenses in a dedicated case/pouch is worth the trouble.
I don't have those lenses, but no matter, I would take the same care as I do with current lenses.
For one thing, I carry an unobtrusive shoulder bag for carrying the camera/lens rather than letting it dangle on a neck strap. (I use a wrist strap)
What bag are you using? I don't use a neck strap either I favor a wrist strap also. I am currently using a RedOxx Chica bag, with my components wrapped/protected separately.
Since you mentioned street shooting, I was referring to the shoulder bags I carry in those cases: usually camera + one lens.
I've always preferred non-photo bags when on the street, and I have several of different sizes depending on which camera/lens I'm carrying. Brands are Eagle Creek and Scully
Also, I use a B+W 007 Clear MRC nano XS-PRO Filter.
Good idea! I don't use/need the lens hood.
Do people notice you more with the larger lens? Is your angst up when using this lens vs being carefree in a way you would when you are shooting with lesser equipment?
I've always preferred smaller lenses so as to not draw attention; I do not consider them "lesser" (personal opinion, of course.)
I should have been sensitive to my language. My use of "lesser" equipment was only to note that I consider this current setup my most valuable one. No offense intended.
No worry, none taken. We all have our likes and dislikes. As a wise person once said, "Everything in life is a point of view."
Thank you for this, I have also always preferred smaller lenses but I am not getting the image quality/performance out of the smaller lenses.
Understood. (choices are what keeps manufacturers happy!)
I think there is medicine available for the OP's problem!

The Sony a7CR is a high-resolution addition to the company's compact full-frame a7C series. So what did we make of it and where does it leave the a7 IV that it sits just above?
Lomography's LomoChrome '92 is designed to mimic the look of classic drugstore film that used to fill family photo albums. As we discovered, to shoot with it is to embrace the unexpected, from strange color shifts to odd textures and oversized grain.
The LowePro PhotoSport Outdoor is a camera pack for photographers who also need a well-designed daypack for hiking and other outdoor use. If that sounds like you, the PhotoSport Outdoor may be a great choice, but as with any hybrid product, there are a few tradeoffs.
The Sony a7C II refreshes the compact full-frame with a 33MP sensor, the addition of a front control dial, a dedicated 'AI' processor, 10-bit 4K/60p video and more. It's a definite improvement, but it helps if you value its compact form.
Why is the Peak Design Everyday Backpack so widely used? A snazzy design? Exceptional utility? A combination of both? After testing one, it's clear why this bag deserves every accolade it's received.
If you want a compact camera that produces great quality photos without the hassle of changing lenses, there are plenty of choices available for every budget. Read on to find out which portable enthusiast compacts are our favorites.
What's the best camera for travel? Good travel cameras should be small, versatile, and offer good image quality. In this buying guide we've rounded-up several great cameras for travel and recommended the best.
'What's the best mirrorless camera?' We're glad you asked.
What’s the best camera for around $2000? This price point gives you access to some of the most all-round capable cameras available. Excellent image quality, powerful autofocus and great looking video are the least you can expect. We've picked the models that really stand out.
Above $2500 cameras tend to become increasingly specialized, making it difficult to select a 'best' option. We case our eye over the options costing more than $2500 but less than $4000, to find the best all-rounder.
