Anyone else notice that he's using expand spot/area and it's picking out faces and tracking?

I saw that when he posted his RAWs from the R3. Wonder why he is not using Human Eye AF?

That is what the R5 should be doing.

There is no real excuse for the two modes

It confirms my suspicion that the R5 has been crippled, made inconvenient to use well. I find that small spot AF, in macro is very accurate, but tracking (no eye) very rarely chooses the same place.Canon has told me that Tracking  AF is designed only to work properly , for face and eye

So two button AF users like myself are fooling ourselves using small spot AF to 'prefocus', tracking mode, as they work independently. Tracking uses a initial focus spot twice as large as small spot focus, even though in eye mode, tracking can use a spot half the size of small spot AF.

I use the diagonal grid as a cross hair and can position the spot very accurately. on the same place, tracking pretty well always decides to wander off.

If it was in any way linked to the small spot, it would stay there

You never know the new firmware might improve things, but I doubt it.
