Thanks. Yes, some Swedish red kites were introduced (to Scotland), but as the project fully got underway birds to be released in England were mainly sourced from Spain and Germany and other birds were moved between sites in the UK as the new population became established. At one stage the UK population was possibly as low as two breeding females. The 2020 UK population was estimated to be close to 2,000 pairs but ironically the red kite population of Spain has declined sharply and the UK may well end up being a donor population in the future.
