If you take an image with its resolution and print it to large size, you will begin to see the pixels, assuming the printing process doesn't do its own blending, "upscaling".

I rarely print anything.  On limited occasions I've been interesting in having large prints done by online services and I've seen that some of them require a minimum resolution.  I thought you could print a lower resolution image to larger size and it would be fine depending on viewing distance, for instance in our big city I've seen photos printed on 10 story tall cloth banners hanging from the side of buildings.  I haven't gotten close enough to tell but I wondered if up close it would be a crude pixelated image.
