Short answer: yes.

I went from a 6D to the R. I waited until the last firmware upgrade addressed the eye AF and purchased a refurb'd unit. For portraits, you'll find the eye AF such a gift (no more perfect nose and fuzzy eyes w/open aperture), the ability to easily recompose dynamically, the higher MPix, the EF-RF adapter works w/every Tamron/Tokina/Canon/Samyang/Sigma lens that I use, no more lens micro-adjustment, shutter curtain works to protect the sensor during lens switch (so no more sensor dust), reading the histogram in the EVF, etc.

The difference between the R and, say, the R5 is the distance in traveling from one county to another. But the distance from a DSLR like my 6D or your 7D mkii will be between continents.

The R is a very good value.
