I had it for two weeks and returned it. My Benchmark is Nikons 14-30 S.
Even after applying the new lens profiles in LR, the Canon 14-35 shows heavy distortion and absolutely terrible CAs. Sharpness is ok, not more. AF and Build quality is good.
I wanted to like it, but this is completely overpriced. The Nikon is better all around at 60% of the price.
Another RF lens letdown after the pretty unremarkable/soft 24-105 L and ridiculously poor STM AF on the 85mm f/2.
Majority are quite positive, but of course vignetting and distortion are mentioned always - and the non existent lens profiles in Capture one and others.
i took the risk an bought the lens today - knowing There will be some issues.
I am trying to build a portable system with this lens , 24-105 ( very good review in a trusted site) and very good RF70-200f4L which is jus stellar IMO ( i have the lens)
W ill report
There are lens profiles in DPP (of course) and ACR. Both work really well. Not sure about other packages, though. No question, this lens NEEDS correction, but once corrected it's really nice.
I made a fast test at home - it is rainy and dark outside. As i often do indoors i just used high ISO 3200 and took a couple of handheld shots ( on purpose to see how IS systems and high ISO work in real life situations) My test material is our bookshelf ... 320cm x 400cm full of books.
14mm looks quite terrible without correction ( i knew it would). With DPP i got quite good looking images and surprisingly good resolution and sharpness . Titles of books were sharp and readable also in corners. It felt really strange to stand so close to a wall and get a decent wide angle photograph. The lens is more like a 15mm lens in use - not quite 14mm , but that is difficult to measure.
Capture One was a bit difficult to use to do something to 14mm photos - it does not have many RF lens profiles. Anyways, the lens is sharp and usable. RF 15-35 would have been in many ways better , but the weight and size make it something i can not use in my photography . I want my system to be portable and something i can carry around in a shoulder bag for several hours... my ideal system for travelling is 14-35 + 24-105 + RF70-200f4. And on a trip i can leave one lens in the hotel room safe if i know it is not needed.
We visited Switzerland some weeks ago and 24-105 + 70-200 was OK. Next time i will take also 14-35
14-35 is not great for serious professional architectural photography , but very usable for landscapes and street. I will try it in some old church or some other special places (indoors).
