I have the same setup and use the RF35mm a lot of the time, but in one shot mode, I just tried in servo mode, and the retraction is identical after switch off.

I would suggest that there may be a fault with the lens, and you need to swap it for another one and compare.

Of course, if you bought it from an internet source, and have no access to another lens, I can see that would be a problem. But you could try going into Best Buy, or a similar common and impersonal big box store, with your camera and trying out some of their lenses to see how they react. The 24-240 lens comes out further than the 35mm.
