Re: 7D Mark ii to EOS R?

I had a 7D MK2 when it first came out and though a fine camera in many respects I moved on through various other mirrorless cameras from Fuji, Panasonic and Sony.

I recently returned to Canon and bought the EOS R, reluctantly in some respects because having read the numerous reviews and reports here and elsewhere as to how much better and a huge advance the R5 and R6 are to the R. This may be so but my budget was limited and so a package arrived by courier with an R + 24-105STM kit and the 800mm f11 STM. My interests lie with wildlife and bird photography in particular with a few landscapes thrown in. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the R body and the cheapo basic kit zoom, the lens is certainly an improvement on the basic kit lens thrown in with rebel kits of old and it's pretty sharp too.

The R takes beautiful pictures, raw images looking clean when processed with DxO PL4 and deep prime up to iso8000.

Autofocus tracking is excellent and I haven't found the R useless for bif despite the painfully slow frame rate. I haven't noticed viewfinder blackout either. My camera came with firmware 1.8 already installed, I wonder if any other tweaking was done on the latest cameras released from the factory?

You don't mention video. 1080p at the best quality is excellent and no overheating. If you're looking for a new R body there may be limited numbers soon as production has ceased though plenty of 2nd hand copies are about.
